The Womens bunad from Oppdal

Many years’ work lie behind the design of the woman’s bunad from Oppdal. Work started in 1946 and the bunad was completed in 1963. The reconstruction was based on garments and fragments from various parts of Oppdal. The shirt is a copy of an old shirt from Gravaune Farm, a former posting station at Oppdal where the bunad brooch also originates. The colours and weaving of the
material for the skirt (a multicoloured woollen fabric) are copied from the old Oppdal landowner’s waistcoat.  The bodice of the woman’s bunad is available in red, green or blue. It is made in a sateen called ‘Olmerduk’ which combines cotton and wool.
