Nordlandsbunad (also called Vefsnbunad)
I got this beautiful picture from Stines father, Stine got
her green Nordlandsbunad for her confirmation in 2003, it was made by her
grandmother. The shawl is made by Stines aunt. Stines grandfather has also
made a small wooden chest for her silver.
Thank you to Arnt, Stines father, for sending me the
pictures, and to Stine herself for letting me use them!!

I
do not have the name on this lady, I got this picture from Karla,
listowner of the Norway-List. The lady is american (I think), and she has
a blue Nordlandsbunad. |
This
is Karin in a green Nordlandsbunad, and Anita in the Graffer-
bunad You can also see Anita in a blue Trønderbunad here |
This is my good friend Vigdis in her Nordlandsbunad. Her mothers family
are from Nordland. She got it for her confirmation, and she turned 50 in
2000! The picture is rather worn out, but the girls are so beautiful and
happy, so I decided to use it after all! The girl to the right is Vigdis
sister in her Romeriksbunad. (their paternal family were from Enebakk in
Akershus). |
Finally I found the opportunity to take a new picture of Vigdis! This
picture was taken on 17. May 2001. Her bunad is 35 years old, and still as
pretty as it was when it was new. |
This
is the sisters Reidi and Grethe with their mother Aashild Halsan from
Vefsn in Nordland. They have the green Nordlands bunad. |
This
is the whole family Halsan, with the confirmee Reidi in the front. Aashild
Halsan has done all three bunads herself!
Thank you to Karla and her family for letting me use
this pictures. |

This
is Chlerry from Sortland (yes, that's her name, and, she is norwegian), also in a blue Nordlands
bunad. Notice the difference in the
apron from Vigdis above! |

More about the Nordlandsbunad
The first Nordland Bunad for women was presented and approved
at the annual meeting of the Hålogaland Ungdomslag [Hålogaland
Young People’s Association] at Leirfjord in 1928. The Young
People’s Associations in Helgeland had collected all the
background material. The design of the bodice was based on a
bridal dress from Ravassåsen in Vefsn, and the embroidery motif
was discovered on two pieces of fabric, shaped like bodice insets,
from Røyten in Vefsn. The silver has been especially designed for
this bunad by Rørvik the goldsmith in Mosjøen. The bunad is
available in blue and green versions. The skirt and bodice are
sewn together and are available in two qualities of wool: either
woollen broadcloth or two-shaft.
