More about the Mans bunad from Fana

The mansbunad from Fana has been in use from the mid-1800s, but around 1900, it was almost not used at all for a few years. Some old men used a "lasketrøye" and short trousers. Some used long trousers and a shorter west. Around 1900-1920 the short trousers and two wests was used as a festive bunad, and it is this bunad Helge wears on these pictures.

The long, open jacket is made of black cloth, with stand-up collar and lapels. The jacket has 3 back slits, cuff slits and 2 side pockets with flaps. Red trim on the collar, also on front edges, and the back bottom edge. Red edges around the back and cuff slits and on the pocket flaps.  The back slits are tied with green zigzag stitching.
