I have never seen this bunad in white before, and in all the books it tells that it can be made in either blue or black. But, nevertheless, this is a white Dovre bunad!

About the Dovre bunad

This bunad was  based on the embroidery on an old bonnet found at Tofte Farm in Dovre. It was created around 1930 The bonnet is illustrated in a watercolour painting by Johan Meyer in his book ‘Fortids kunst i Norges bygder’ [‘Regional Norwegian Art from Earlier Times’] published in 1911.

The identity of the person who actually designed the embroidery is not known. The bunad has distinctive and fairly large flower motifs on the skirt, bonnet, bodice and reticule, and is available in black or blue. The bodice is attached to the skirt and is in the same material, and its cut is identical to the cut of the Gudbrandsdal ceremonial bunad.

The White Dovrebunad (information from Karina)
As mentioned above, the Dovre bunad is made in black or blue. But, during  the World War 2 and the period short after, the black and blue fabrics were hard to get. The bunad Karina wears in the picture, was made by Tekla Jullins in Lillehammer. Her great grandfather was a prisoner of war, but through contacts, he was able to get Tekla Jullins to make this bunad to his wife. Karina told me in her e-mail that this May 17th (2009) she met another woman with a Dovre-bunad made during the same period, it was with a light-pink bodice and made of silk or similar. It was also made by Tekla Jullins!  Thank you again, Karina for your interest in my bunadpages, and your picture and information on the white Dovre-bunad.
