Womens Winter bunad Hardanger

vinterbunad2.jpg (43837 bytes)The Winter bunad from Hardanger is a rather rare bunad in my part of the country. In fact, it is the only girl I have seen in Oslo wearing it!
On this picture of Åse and her daughters Linda and Camilla,  you can see the winter bunad from Hardanger.

More about the Womens Winter bunad from Hardanger (Ullensvang)

The old close-fitting waistcoat (jacket) is used in Hardanger in winter.
There's also a black apron with applied black work embroidery with the
winter costume. The silver belt should normally not be used with this
costume. There may be minor variations from one village to another in
Hardanger. What we show here is a costume from Sørfjorden.

The skirt is gathered and made of black woollen fabric. The waistcoat is
made of black woollen fabric, and its floral braiding border is home woven.
It's open in the front with a bodice inset. The bodice inset may be
embroidered in different colours and of different patterns. It may also be
beaded.

A half-shirt with black work embroidery on collar and bib is used inside the
waistcoat instead of a shirt. The belt is embroidered and fastened with
silver buckles. It may be made using different colours and techniques. There
should be no silver belt or lap streamers with the winter costume. The
headgear is the woman's white headpiece (head-scarf). Black stockings and
special costume's shoes go with the costume. As for jewellery there's a
small brooch with pendants at the throat and a larger gold-plated silver
"breast brooch" and gold-plated silver buckles on the belt.
