More
about the Vestlandsdrakt Even if there
were a large amount of bunads and festive costumes around in the western part of
Norway, there was a need of a new variant in the middle of 1990s especially in
the Bergen area. Bergen has always been a
colourful city, and with extensive contacts with the rest of Europe. From
far-away came the ships, loaded with excotic and exclusive fabrics. From that
has the designer of the Vestlands drakt (costume) made a costume with long
traditions in this area. The story of
Vestlandsdrakten started with Marit Ingvaldsen and Kristin Johannessen. They
wanted a costume for the Olympics in 1994, arranged on Lillehammer in Norway.
They decided to make their own costume. People thought it was beautiful, so
Marit and Kristin decided they would keep on working on it. Extract
