(click on the pictures to get a larger image)
This
handsome couple is Kjell-Inge (in a mans bunad from Fana,
made by his mother Anne-Karin) and his wife Birthe in her Sotra-bunad, her
mother made it for her. Notice Birthes green bodice,
it is to be worn by married women.
I have gotten these pictures from Arne,
Kjell-Inges father.

This
is Maren and Marius, Birthe and Kjell-Inges children. Maren in a girls Sotra
bunad, you can see the red bodice on the unmarried girls bunad.
Marius has also a Sotra bunad.
It is the childrens grandmother (Birthes mother) that
made these beautiful bunads).
Thank you Arne for all the pictures! |
More about the Womans bunad from Sotra
Gunvor Ingstad Trætteberg worked for many
years on the costumes traditions in Hordaland, and especially she worked on the
trditions on Sotra. Her work resulted in a big exhibition in the Historical
Museum in Bergen in 1951.
"Husmor-laget" on Sotra used this material to start the work on a new bunad for
the Sotra women. The women had before used the "nasjonalen" - the
Hardangerbunad with variations.
The bodice (called "løstikk") for the
unmarried girl is made of red cloth, and of green cloth for the married women.
It is edged with red and yellow bands. The bodice inset
may be embroidered in different colours and of different patterns. It may also
be
beaded. The belt is either embroidered with woolen yarn, or beads. Silver
belt is only to be used by married women.
