More about the mans bunad from Sotra
The jackets from many areas in Hordaland has
no seams on the shoulders, they call a "primary cut". It has been in use for
long period of times. This jacket has a stand-up collar, decorated with
embroideries of a green/blue "wind-rose". It has 7 buttons on each breast, but
is not to be buttoned. It is made in black wadmal.
The waistcoat is made of red cloth, with a
green stand-up collar. The back is of unbleached cotton cloth. Silver buttons.
The breeches are made of black wadmal. Knitted
stockings in white wool. Three different patterns are in use, the "krunespøt,
rosemønster or kyrkjespir" It is the latter that is in most use today, the
"kirkespir" the "churchspire" pattern.
A knitted wool-cap - either in black or
blue-black, with the wind-rose in the pattern, knitted in red, blue, white,
yellow and green.
